Glycolic acid is known as the gold standard in chemical exfoliation and is recognized for its ability to provide an even exfoliation to the skin by helping promote cellular turnover. This cellular turnover helps to improve fine lines, skin texture, tone, and radiance. It’s available in many forms such as cleansers, serums, toners or creams.

What is Glycolic Acid?

Glycolic acid is the smallest of the alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and is commonly derived from sugar cane. This acid effectively loosens and releases dead and dehydrated cells, which increases the rate of exfoliation on the surface of the skin. Thus promoting exfoliation which promotes cellular turnover and helps minimize the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture, and full skin.

Why is Glycolic Acid good for skin?:

Every month, your skin sheds dull, dead skin cells to make way for newer, healthier cells underneath. This natural exfoliation occurs every 28 days on average in young adults. As skin ages, cellular turnover slows, which can cause a buildup of dead skin cells resulting in dull skin or uneven skin tone and texture. Glycolic acid helps slough away that dead and dehydrated cells with gentle, effective exfoliation.

Is Glycolic Acid safe?

Overuse of any chemical or mechanical exfoliator can result in redness or irritation. If use in moderate concentrations, glycolic acid can be used daily to help with the skin’s natural exfoliation process. Make sure to consult with your Skincare Specialist to help identify the right concentration for your specific skin concerns.
