What is PicoSure® Laser Tattoo Removal?

Erase unwanted tattoos with PicoSure®, the most advanced laser treatment available for safe and effective tattoo removal. PicoSure® targets unwanted ink more effectively than ever before, successfully removing difficult ink colors, such as blues and greens, as well as previously treated tattoos. Fewer treatments and greater results are achievable with this laser’s groundbreaking picosecond technology.

When it comes to laser tattoo removal, it is important to remember that certain colors are easier to remove than others. Dark (blue, black) and red inks are the easiest to treat, and oranges and purple inks usually fade as well. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove, and additional treatments are needed to produce significant fading.

PicoSure® Laser Tattoo Removal Candidates

Healthy adults who are unhappy with the look of a tattoo and wish to make it less noticeable and/or remove it from their skin can often benefit from this treatment. However, if you are pregnant or nursing, you should wait to have this treatment. To determine if you are a good candidate, contact our office to schedule a consultation.

The PicoSure® Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment

There is a level of discomfort with this treatment, which is why we recommend arriving 30 minutes prior to your appointment if you wish to apply a topical numbing cream or to ice the area. Then, the PicoSure® laser will be moved across the area with the tattoo to deliver a burst of energy to the tattoo pigment in your skin. This will break the ink into small particles which your body will eliminate naturally over time.

PRO-NOX™ Add-On

At Grand Pearl Spa, a division of Plastic Surgery Associates, we are consistently looking for new ways to improve patient comfort and to ease any pre-procedure anxiety. Our search for new and improved pain management has led us to the latest analgesic technology, the Pro-Nox™ nitrous oxide system.

The PRO-NOX™ is a pneumatically driven gas system designed to deliver a 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide mixture to patients for the relief of pain and anxiety before and during your procedure.

The PRO-NOX™ is patient-controlled inhaled analgesia for in-office use and takes effect in seconds, offering immediate relief of pain and anxiety.

What to Expect Following PicoSure®

An antibacterial ointment and dressing will be applied immediately after treatment. The treated area should be kept clean and out of direct sunlight. Follow your provider’s instructions exactly for best results. A shower can be taken the next day but be careful not to scrub the treatment area. If a scab forms, it is vital that you do not scratch or pick it.

Greater than 95 percent fading of the tattoo may be accomplished. However, it is important to know that there are many types of tattoo inks used today. Not knowing which tattoo ink was used, or how deeply it was applied, makes it impossible for your laser specialist to predict the degree of removal on any given tattoo.

On average, professional tattoos require 6-12 treatments, all spaced approximately 6-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments depends on the amount and type of ink used, and the depth of the ink in the skin.
